The Visual Snow Initiative (VSI) and its Founder Emeritus, Sierra Domb, were recently featured by CNBC Cures, bringing Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS) and the importance of patient-led advocacy to a prominent national platform focused on rare diseases.

In the August 21, 2026 edition of the CNBC Cures newsletter, Sierra shared her personal journey from developing unexplained and debilitating visual and sensory symptoms to receiving a diagnosis of Visual Snow Syndrome and ultimately founding the Visual Snow Initiative.

Her story highlighted not only the challenges people with VSS can face in seeking answers, but also the impact patients can have when their experiences help drive awareness, research and medical recognition.

What Is CNBC Cures?

CNBC Cures is a purpose-led, multi-platform initiative launched by CNBC in January 2026 to raise awareness of rare diseases and help improve outcomes for the millions of people affected by them. Led by CNBC Squawk Box Co-Anchor Becky Quick, the initiative was created to showcase patient voices, scientific research and progress while bringing together families, physicians, researchers, investors, biotechnology leaders, policymakers and regulators.

The initiative extends beyond storytelling. The inaugural CNBC Cures Summit brought together influential investors, policymakers, biotechnology leaders, researchers and rare disease advocates to address challenges including research funding, regulatory barriers, healthcare systems and access to emerging treatments. CNBC describes the initiative as an effort to accelerate advances in rare disease research and create better outcomes for patients.

For the Visual Snow Syndrome community, being featured by CNBC Cures is particularly meaningful. It places VSS within a broader conversation about conditions that are often misunderstood or overlooked and introduces the experiences of people with VSS to audiences involved in medicine, research, biotechnology, investment and healthcare policy.

It also reinforces an important message at the heart of VSI’s work: patient experiences can play an essential role in identifying unmet needs, guiding research priorities and advancing medical understanding.

Sierra Domb’s Story Featured by CNBC Cures

In its newsletter, CNBC Cures introduced Sierra’s experience with the following:

Bringing Visual Snow Syndrome to a Wider Audience

For VSI, the CNBC Cures feature represents another important opportunity to bring Visual Snow Syndrome into conversations taking place beyond the VSS community.

CNBC Cures was specifically created to connect patient experiences with the people and institutions positioned to influence the future of medicine. Its programming brings together patients and families alongside researchers, clinicians, investors, biotechnology leaders and policymakers, creating a platform where lived experience and scientific innovation can inform one another.

Sierra’s story also reflects why the Visual Snow Initiative was created. What began as one person’s search for an explanation has grown into an international effort to advance awareness, education, research and resources for people affected by Visual Snow Syndrome.

The Visual Snow Initiative is grateful to CNBC Cures for providing a platform for Sierra’s story and for helping bring greater visibility to Visual Snow Syndrome and the experiences of those living with it.
