This October, Hana will climb Mount Kilimanjaro—the tallest mountain in Africa—to raise awareness and funds for a cause that is incredibly important to her and her family.
Her goal is to raise £2,500 for the Visual Snow Initiative (VSI) to advance research, treatments, and awareness of Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS).

Hana’s Story
“In 2023, my younger brother was diagnosed with Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS). VSS is a neurological disorder that affects visual perception, sensory processing, auditory function, and cognitive abilities. Visual snow includes the constant perception of static, flashing lights, and blinking dots occurring 24/7.
As a family, we had never come across this condition before. For many years, VSS has been misinterpreted and dismissed, negatively impacting the mental health of those affected. There is currently no known cure. Over the last few years, I have watched my brother courageously take on VSS and learn coping mechanisms to continue day-to-day life. I could not be more proud of him.
Thanks to the fantastic work of the Visual Snow Initiative, global VSS experts are collaborating to study and develop solutions, advancing research and treatment options for those affected. Since VSI’s founding in 2018, recognition of the condition has quadrupled across both clinical and public domains.
Please help us raise funds to support the Visual Snow Initiative’s research, and all of the people suffering from what is a life-changing and often debilitating condition.”

A Family United for the Cause
This is the second time the Lalani family has rallied to support VSS research. In 2023, Hana’s mother, Sheila Lalani, organized a fundraiser through the Tough Mudder challenge, surpassing their donation goal and raising an incredible £4,000.
Now, Hana is carrying that momentum forward with her own challenge—taking on Africa’s tallest peak.
How You Can Support
Every donation brings us closer to answers, treatments, and hope for those living with Visual Snow Syndrome. By supporting this climb, you’re not only backing Hana on Kilimanjaro—you’re also standing with her brother, her family, and the entire VSS community.
