Our Heart Speaks (OHS) is a global resource for people living with chronic medical conditions or disabilities, offering a unique platform where individuals can share their experiences of resilience and healing. Through personal narratives, poetry, photography, video, artwork, and music, it emphasizes the idea that “our personal narrative has the power to heal.” Their online library, educational publications, and workshops create a lasting effect of hope, understanding, and inspiration for others.
Sierra’s Story
At just 21 years old, Sierra Domb’s life was profoundly changed by Visual Snow Syndrome (VSS)—a complex neurological condition that affects people worldwide yet remains widely misunderstood and under-recognized in the medical community. Rather than allowing her diagnosis to silence her, Sierra found purpose in sharing her journey and advocating for others living with VSS.
She transformed her personal challenges into awareness, research, and global advocacy. Through her work, the medical and patient communities have taken significant steps toward understanding VSS, building knowledge, and exploring potential treatment options and therapies. Her story is a testament to resilience, determination, and the belief that even in hardship, there is an opportunity to create meaningful change.
The Visual Snow Initiative is deeply grateful to Our Heart Speaks and to Ted Meyer, who interviewed Sierra and helped share her journey. By featuring her story, they are not only amplifying her voice but also helping to educate more people worldwide about VSS.
