Hello! My name is Eedit, I’m 19 years old and I live in Finland. I have suffered from VSS since June 2023. I think I got it after being extremely stressed for a long period of time.
The symptoms started to appear one by one. First I started to see ghosting, few days later horrible after images and trailing, then tinnitus, static etc. Now I have almost every symptom that there is to visual snow syndrome. It was super scary and devastating at first, especially when no one around me believed me when I told them about my vision. They thought it was just stress and anxiety and it’ll go away eventually. Thankfully I got a diagnosis from a neuro-opthalmologist a few months later.
The crazy thing is that when I told my mother about visual snow syndrome, she realized that she has had it her whole life without knowing. I have also made new friends who share the same symptoms as me, after I made a TikTok about my story.
Because I had people around me who understood visual snow syndrome and has it themselves, it was easier for me to get used to this new life, which I’m very glad about. Symptoms I struggle the most are trailing and tinnitus. But I no longer let VSS rule my life and I continue to do things that I love. Trailing is pretty annoying as a dancer, but most of the time I don’t even notice it anymore.
My message to all my fellow VSS people is that it will get better. I understand the anxiety when a symptom gets worse, but remember stressing about it is only going to make it worse. Keep doing what you love and don’t let VSS get you down. You are not alone<3
