Visual Snow Warrior of the Week – Jackie Jacoby

Spotlight on: Jackie Jacoby 〰 @gently__used

“Hi VSS family! I’m Jackie and I’m 27 years old. In December 2019 I got off of a plane and felt the ground moving underneath me. For the next 11 months, I had dizziness & vertigo, nerve pain, pressure in my ears, hearing loss, disassociation, weight loss, and sensory distortions like audio-visual delays, “twinkles” in my vision, and floaters. I went from being highly active to completely immobile.

I flew to a hospital in Chicago and was diagnosed with VSS. I then met with neurologist & VSS expert Dr. Peter Goadsby, who created a treatment plan. He also helped me understand the non-visual symptoms of VSS – there are a lot!

Now, I can do more than I ever thought possible. I go climbing, hiking, camping, and dancing. The best part – I can drive again!

To anyone struggling with VSS – you’re not alone, and it does get better. Having a solid support system is key, and do your best to create healthy habits: get lots of sleep, eat leafy greens, buy a solid eye mask, and stop smoking if you do. Last but not least, find a doctor who can recognize the symptoms of this rare disease. You can do it!”
