Visual Snow Warrior of the Week – Matthias Sneyers

Spotlight on: Matthias Sneyers ???? @settisjournal

“Hello everyone, my name is Matthias, my friends call me by my second name Setti & I am from Belgium.

2 years ago, I started to see dots in my eyesight. I didn’t know what it was, but I didn’t think much of it. Sadly as the weeks/months progressed, my eyesight got worse. I eventually went to an ophthalmologist, but unfortunately, she couldn’t find anything wrong. Them being the professionals, I thought it was just in my head.

For months, I kept visiting doctors to figure out what was going on with me & why I had these constant migraines, headaches, seeing static in my eyes. It got worse & worse, & had flare-up after flare-up. This went on for a long time & eventually, my doctor said I should accept those vision problems & anything that came with it. It pushed me down some dark paths because I knew something was wrong, but nobody believed me. For doctors, I was this healthy 27y/old guy, while I knew there was something wrong. & trust me, googling does not help. It led me to several unnecessary procedures & some financially unstable situations.

Just a month ago, I decided to go back to another Ophthalmologist & she did the same tests. But she made me aware of “Visual Snow Syndrome,” which made me drop my jaw. I was so happy I finally got a diagnosis that fit everything I felt. Sadly I was informed there wasn’t a cure for it. After that, I went to google more about VS which led me to the “visual snow” Facebook page, then Instagram account & YouTube, where I read the stories of those suffering from VS. I was crying & felt understood. If you ever need to talk, reach out to my Instagram account @settisjournal.

I’m so glad I found your initiative & see all those people who share a similar situation. I hope to follow everything that is going on & support you guys in your initiative, & I hope a cure is at hand.”
